What first caught out attention was the database of NPDES permits available for each zipcode. The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program controls water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. By searching your local zip code, you can determine which companies or organizations have NPDES permits for discharging into surface water as well as violations. All the information can be found here.
